SUMMARY:Bird Walk at Muga Sumoni Gaon\, Golaghat\, Assam
DESCRIPTION:Bird Walk at Shail Parn Udyan\, Devtal\, Jabalpur\, MP \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Jabalpur\n \n \n \n \n 21 December\, 2025\n \n \n \n \n Sanjay Gupta\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n About Shail Parn Udyan \n \n \n \n Shail Parn Udyhan\, located near Devtal in Garha\, Jabalpur along Medical College Road\, is a scenic natural park set against rocky hill formations and lush vegetation in the heart of the city. The park covers a sprawling green area with walking trails\, a natural pond\, and rocky outcrops\, offering both city-dwellers and visitors a peaceful retreat from urban life. Its landscape includes a mix of native trees\, shrubs\, and seasonal flowers that contribute to a pleasant greenery and cooler microclimate within the city. While it is primarily known as a recreational and nature spot\, its semi-wild setting with dense tree cover provides habitat for a variety of common urban and woodland birds\, making it of interest to local birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts. The presence of water bodies and vegetated patches attracts birds that thrive in mixed park and scrub habitats\, adding to its appeal as a bird-rich area in the Jabalpur region. \n \n \n \n Despite its natural charm and ecological potential\, Shail Parn Udyhan faces several threats typical of urban green spaces\, including limited maintenance\, lack of infrastructure (like restrooms and security)\, and pressure from city development that can degrade habitat quality and disturb wildlife. These challenges highlight the need for focused conservation and management efforts\, such as better upkeep of trails and vegetation\, habitat enhancement to support greater biodiversity\, and community engagement to protect resident and visiting bird species. Strengthening these conservation measures would help preserve the park’s ecological character while enhancing its role as both a nature haven and popular public space for relaxation and environmental education in Jabalpur. \n \n \n \n \n Bird Guide: Sanjay GuptaHe has been birding for over 20 years and has spent the last five years guiding enthusiasts on the field. He loves sharing his rich knowledge of birds and inspiring more people to connect with nature. \n \n \n \n \n Bird walk Location \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Common birds of Shail Parn Udyan \n \n \n \n Shail Parn Udyan in Jabalpur is a surprisingly rich birding hotspot\, with over 220 bird species recorded so far\, making it one of the most diverse urban green pockets in the region. The park hosts a vibrant mix of residents and seasonal migrants\, ranging from colorful passerines to elusive forest birds. Birders often encounter Painted Spurfowl\, Orange-headed Thrush\, Blue-capped Rock Thrush\, Tickell’s Blue Flycatcher\, Taiga and Red-breasted Flycatchers\, along with winter visitors like Hume’s\, Sulphur-bellied\, and Greenish Warblers. The wooded patches echo with calls of Brown Boobook\, Jungle Owlet\, Greater Coucal\, Coppersmith and Brown-headed Barbets\, while open and wet areas support species such as White-breasted Waterhen\, Little Grebe\, and agile raptors like the Shikra. Bright forest jewels including the Black-hooded Oriole\, Golden Oriole\, and Purple Sunbird add to the park’s charm\, making Shail Parn Udyan a rewarding destination for both casual visitors and seasoned birdwatchers. \n \n \n \n \n Painted Spurfowl \n \n \n \n Shikra \n \n \n \n White-breasted Waterhen \n \n \n \n Grey-headed Swamphen \n \n \n \n Brown Boobook \n \n \n \n Tickell's Blue Flycatcher \n \n \n \n Coppersmith Barbet \n \n \n \n Black-hooded Oriole \n \n \n \n Indian Golden Oriole \n \n \n \n Greater Coucal \n \n \n \n Ashy Prinia \n \n \n \n Asian Green Bee-eater \n \n \n \n White-throated Kingfisher \n \n \n \n Taiga Flycatcher \n \n \n \n Purple Sunbird \n \n \n \n Black Drongo \n \n \n \n Blue-capped Rock Thrush \n \n \n \n Little Grebe \n \n \n \n Asian Pied Starling \n \n \n \n Green Warbler \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Summary of Walk \n \n \n \n The bird walk at Shail Parn Udhyan Park\, led by Sanjay Gupta with a group of 11 participants\, was a pleasant and engaging experience despite challenging weather conditions. The morning was unusually cold with low sunlight\, which limited visibility and bird activity to some extent. Even so\, the group managed to observe around 22 bird species while exploring different open and marshy spaces within the park. The walk maintained a calm and enjoyable pace\, allowing participants to appreciate both the birds and the natural surroundings.\n \n \n \n \n The participants were enthusiastic and genuinely interested in learning about birds and the environment\, which added to the positive atmosphere of the walk. Their curiosity and active involvement enriched discussions and observations throughout the session. Despite the cold conditions\, the walk was considered successful\, leaving everyone with a sense of satisfaction and appreciation for urban green spaces and the birdlife they support. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Number of Participants \n \n 0

The park hosts a vibrant mix of residents and seasonal migrants\, ranging from colorful passerines to elusive forest birds. Birders often encounter Painted Spurfowl\, Orange-headed Thrush\, Blue-capped Rock Thrush\, Tickell’s Blue Flycatcher\, Taiga and Red-breasted Flycatchers\, along with winter visitors like Hume’s\, Sulphur-bellied\, and Greenish Warblers. The wooded patches echo with calls of Brown Boobook\, Jungle Owlet\, Greater Coucal\, Coppersmith and Brown-headed Barbets\, while open and wet areas support species such as White-breasted Waterhen\, Little Grebe\, and agile raptors like the Shikra. Bright forest jewels including the Black-hooded Oriole\, Golden Oriole\, and Purple Sunbird add to the park’s charm\, making Shail Parn Udyan a rewarding destination for both casual visitors and seasoned birdwatchers. \n \n \n \n \n Painted Spurfowl \n \n \n \n Shikra \n \n \n \n White-breasted Waterhen \n \n \n \n Grey-headed Swamphen \n \n \n \n Brown Boobook \n \n \n \n Tickell's Blue Flycatcher \n \n \n \n Coppersmith Barbet \n \n \n \n Black-hooded Oriole \n \n \n \n Indian Golden Oriole \n \n \n \n Greater Coucal \n \n \n \n Ashy Prinia \n \n \n \n Asian Green Bee-eater \n \n \n \n White-throated Kingfisher \n \n \n \n Taiga Flycatcher \n \n \n \n Purple Sunbird \n \n \n \n Black Drongo \n \n \n \n Blue-capped Rock Thrush \n \n \n \n Little Grebe \n \n \n \n Asian Pied Starling \n \n \n \n Green Warbler \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Summary of Walk \n \n \n \n The bird walk at Shail Parn Udhyan Park\, led by Sanjay Gupta with a group of 11 participants\, was a pleasant and engaging experience despite challenging weather conditions. The walk maintained a calm and enjoyable pace\, allowing participants to appreciate both the birds and the natural surroundings.\n \n \n \n \n The participants were enthusiastic and genuinely interested in learning about birds and the environment\, which added to the positive atmosphere of the walk.
