Highlights from the Event

Ataavi’s Campus Bird Walk at Ram Kishan TT College, Udaipur, brought together seven participants for an engaging morning of birdwatching led by Bhuvnesh Kumar. Exploring the college campus and its surrounding green spaces, participants discovered an impressive diversity of birdlife, recording 29 species during the session. One of the standout sightings was a group of six Spotted Owlets, delighting participants with close views of these charismatic nocturnal birds. Other notable observations included Indian Grey Hornbill, Red-naped Ibis, Brahminy Kite, Black Kite, White-throated Kingfisher, and Greater Coucal, highlighting the variety of habitats and ecological niches present within the campus landscape.

The walk also showcased a colourful mix of smaller birds, including Tickell’s Blue Flycatcher, Small Minivet, Purple Sunbird, Pale-billed Flowerpecker, Indian White-eye, and Black-rumped Flameback. Participants enjoyed observing familiar species such as Common Myna, Jungle Myna, Spotted Dove, Oriental Magpie-Robin, and Rose-ringed Parakeet, while learning about bird identification, behaviour, and the importance of urban green spaces for wildlife. The diversity recorded during the walk demonstrated how educational institutions can serve as valuable refuges for biodiversity and provided participants with a deeper appreciation for the birds that share their everyday surroundings.

Bhuvnesh Kumar is an M.Sc. Wildlife Science student at the University of Kota with a deep-rooted passion for biodiversity conservation and environmental awareness. His interest in birding is closely connected to his broader commitment to understanding and protecting local ecosystems. With a strong academic foundation in wildlife science, he aims to bridge the gap between classroom learning and on-ground conservation by engaging people directly with nature through guided bird walks and field-based learning experiences.
